Sadly, I was a long time smoker. Since I stopped smoking I noticed that my lips were dark. I really want to lighten them because they were so dark that my light colored lipstick and lip glosses did not look right on my lips. I thought about it for a while and put together a lip lightening regime that consisted of a lip scrub or peel (to remove dead skin), a lip lightener (to lighten after skin removal), a moisturizer (to help with peeling), and a lip sunscreen to protect my lips from the sun.
The products I decided to use were the Nature Republic By Flower Lip Scrub, the Skin Actives Lemon Peel Bioferment, Desert Essence Ultra Hydrating Lip Balm with Shea Butter, and the It’s Skin Dr. Formula Essential Lip Balm SPF 10.
The Nature Republic By Flower Lip Scrub came in a 10 gram or .35 ounce squeeze tube. It’s grainy & moist to the touch. It has a light, pleasant fragrance. It is pretty heavy on the lips and the taste is unpleasant. When I use it alone, my lips are smoother, but not baby smooth. It is very gentle. I apply it all over my lips, massage vigorously, and then rinse it off.
The Skin Actives Lemon Peel Bioferment was something I had for a while. It came in a long tube. I only had a few milliliters left, but that was more than enough for my purposes. After scrubbing my lips, I apply this with a qtip. After about 4-5 uses the color on my top lip is breaking up, but my bottom lip is lightening at a much faster rate than the top one.
The Desert Essence Ultra Hydrating Lip Balm with Shea Butter – I apply this after I let the Lemon Peel Bioferment sink in. This keeps my lips nice and hydrated. I noticed that this also speeds up the shedding of old flaky skin.
It’s Skin Dr. Formula Essential Lip Balm SPF 10 came in a 14ml or .47 ounce squeeze tube. This is a gloss when applied and I chose the baby pink color. I have never used a lip balm that had an spf in it but, since I am heavily exfoliating and lightening my lips – I felt I needed it. This lip balm smells like fruit and berries, but it tastes awful. It keeps my lips moist, but not super hydrated. My lips feel coated when I wear this. So much so that I can feel when it is starting to wear off – which usually happens after about 5 hours or so. I usually wear this only when I go out into the sun.
I have been following this regime since March of 2015 and it is now July 2015. All of these products have lasted a long while. I am not halfway through with them even though I use them about every other day or so. It took a long time for my lips to start to lighten. I started to see results with my bottom lip around May of 2015. Now the color there is nearly all gone. It took until the end of June for my top lip to see an improvement.
Just the other day someone complimented me on my lipstick. I was wearing the Dr. Formula Essential Lip Balm in Baby Pink. I was so happy because that meant that they could see the color of the gloss – which meant that my lips had lightened. So I will keep on using this and hopefully I will get both of my lips in better condition.
